资源简介:
These data were compiled to assess the Glen Canyon Slough as habitat for Odonates (dragonflies and damselflies) and characterize its physical parameters in light of proposed management actions to modify the slough and reduce breeding habitat for invasive warmwater fish species. U.S. Geological Survey staff conducted site visits to the Colorado River in Glen Canyon, the Slough, and another backwater (‘Frogwater’) on 11-13, and 26 September 2024. The objectives of our study were to evaluate Odonate habitat in the slough relative to the mainstem Colorado River and other backwater habitat, characterize the physical habitat, sample and identify invertebrates using benthic and aerial methods, and determine the potential impact of proposed slough modifications on Odonate habitat and diversity. These data represent a snapshot of the physical and biological conditions of the Glen Canyon slough and surrounding areas in September 2024, providing baseline information on the Odonate community and habitat characteristics. This information can be used to inform management decisions regarding proposed modifications to the slough, specifically concerning potential impacts on Odonate habitat and diversity, and contribute to a broader understanding of the ecological dynamics of the Colorado River ecosystem in Glen Canyon for future research and monitoring efforts.
