A germylene complex bearing a β-diketiminate ligand with sterically small aliphatic iPr alkyl groups on the N atom coordinates to a copper complex bearing the same ligand to afford the copper−germylene complex [Cu(iPrnacnac){GeCl(iPrnacnac)}] (3). Hydrogenation and methylation of the germanium in 3 was effected with KBHEt3 and MeLi, respectively.
