Marine biofilms were formed over 21 days on novel nCeO2-functionalised surface coatings to examine their antifouling activity and impact upon biofilm community structure and diversity. Coated aluminium panels were entered into natural seawater within a recreational port and following 21 days, biofilms were removed and DNA extracted for amplicon sequencing of the 16S and 18S rRNA genes.
