The first worldwide assessment of biological nitrification inhibition by tropical grasses

In this project, we studied the savanna soil microbiota using Illumina NextSeq 2000 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, targeting bacteria and archaea. The samples were collected from: South America, West and South Africa, during the main rainy season. For each savanna site, soils under the most common plant species were sampled (5 separate plants per species) from a depth of 20 cm, together with bare soils. The results were used to analyse the taxonomic and functional compositions of savanna soil microbiomes with particular interest in N-related groups, and to determine their main environmental drivers.
