Cultural Relic Protection Units (CRPUs) are a general designation for immovable cultural relics included in the protection catalog in the Chinese mainland, and refer to the areas where key protection measures are implemented for the main body of the protected cultural relic and its surrounding specific scope. A CRPU is established at the site of immovable cultural relics such as ancient cultural sites, ancient tombs, ancient buildings, grottoes and stone carvings that possess historical, artistic and scientific values, and is dedicated to cultural relic protection work.

The dataset of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Under State Protection launched by CnOpenData covers the lists of national-level cultural relic protection units from the 1st to 8th batches, and includes fields such as batch number, serial number, classification code, name, cultural relic type, era and address.
