Desire to Learn

When she arrived in Swansea from Afghanistan three and a half years ago, feminist and artist, Sweeta Durrani knew no English. Since then she has flourished. She has begun to write in English (several of her poems are on the Covid Chronicles from the Margins website, as are some of her beautiful drawings). She was highlighted as a feminist voice in in her FE college for International Women’s Day and selected as ESOL Student of the Year on 24th of June 2021. She is currently applying to university to study Art and Design with the long-term goal of establishing her own business. <br> ----- This material is part of the Covid Chronicles from the Margins project, funded by The Open University and The Hague.
