Distinct genomic profiles of gestational choriocarcinoma, a unique cancer from pregnant tissues

Genomic profiles of gestational choriocarcinoma (GCC) and its progression mechanisms from hydatidiform moles remain unknown. GCCs are different from conventional cancers with respect to frequent copy-neutral loss-of-heterozygosity with copy number alterations, infrequent driver mutations and unique mutation signatures. CNAs may be a pivotal event that promotes hydatidiform mole progression to GCC. Our data may helpful for differential diagnosis between gestational and non-gestational tumors, between hydatidiform moles and GCC, and for selecting patients with poor prognosis.
