Exploring the Influence of Psychological Factors on the Comorbidity of Dental Caries and Obesity in Adolescents from the Perspective of the Oral-Gut-Brain Axis

Adolescence is a crucial period for development, but dental caries and obesity are becoming increasingly common, posing health challenges. This study looked at how psychological factors affect the co-occurrence of dental caries and obesity in adolescents through the oral-gut-brain axis. Researchers surveyed 1,024 students and analyzed biosamples from over 90 adolescents aged 12-15 using methods like 16S rRNA sequencing and metabolomics. The results showed that oral and gut microbiota play key roles in the links between dental caries, obesity, and psychological disorders. This research offers new insights into the mechanisms and potential strategies for prevention and treatment.
