Phenotypic resistance diversity underpinned by a diverse repertoire of candidate NLR loci and genotype-specific expression patterns

To unravel the mechanism behind the diverse nature of the defense in a natural plant pathosystem, we have sequenced the transcriptome of five different Plantago lanceolate genotypes in response to inoculation by the same strain of its pathogen Podosphaera plantaginis. Benefitting the prior knowledge of different resistance patterns towards the pathogen, we are studying the molecular basis of the resistance in our system with an emphasis on NLR genes. The primary results indicate that each plant genotype have their own specific gene expression pattern and there are several NLR genes involved in a successful defense against pathogen.
