Ivy Cottage, Calton, Staffordshire. Archaeological Watching Brief and Historic Building Recording (OASIS ID: archaeol5-327558)

Archaeological Research Services Ltd. was commissioned to undertake archaeological works at Ivy Cottage, Calton, Staffordshire. The works included a watching brief of works to the exterior and interior of the house and a historic building recording. This was requested by the Peak District National Park Authority because of the potential for the development to reveal archaeological data and expose further historic fabric which could aid the understanding of the historical development and use of the building. The cottage is Grade II listed traditional, vernacular Staffordshire Moorlands cottage and has multiple phases of development with the oldest dating to the 17th century at the earliest with a 19th century extension. The external watching brief revealed a pond feature in the gardens to the north of the property and a wall foundation adjacent to the eastern wall of the cottage. The historic building recording undertaken prior to and during the alteration works, provides further information on the historical features of the building.
