Ecology-Lab3:Group 3:Dataset 2:Pan Trap Dataset

Experiment was conducted using a transect, soapy water and nine coloured platic pan containers with observations made and recorded. At about 3:00pm a transect was laid down in an area of the grassland of lenght about fifteen meters. Nine plastic pan were laid out along the transect, each one meter apart with colour sequence yellow, white, then blue. The containers were then each filled with soapy water and left to capture insects.A transect was then laid down in an area of the woodlot of lenght about fifteen meters. Nine plastic pan were laid out along the transect, each one meter apart of colour sequence yellow, white, then blue. The containers were then each filled with soapy water and left to capture insects. The transect was removed after the pans were laid out. At approximately 5:00pm, the sites were revisited and the insects captured in each pan were observed. The total number(total abundance) of insects captured in each of the pan trap of grassland and woodlot area was recorded. RTUs which means recognizable taxonomic units were then counted and recorded.This means the different number of species that could be indentified which were trapped in each pan. The colour of the plastic pan and site were also recorded. Containers were then emptied. Data was collected on September 30, 2015 between 3:00-5:00pm in the grassland and woodlot area of York University, Keele Campus among a groupof four Ecology(BIOL2050) section 03 student.It was a sunny day with temperaure average of 20 degrees celcius and wind average speed of 2-4m/s.Data was collected by the following four members of group number three (3): Shaneil.H, Mary.H, Gamasayini.K and Prachi.M.
