Culture dependent and culture independent bacterial diversity was studied from different associated niches in Arctic which included glacier snow, ice, melt water channels and fjord along with understanding different environmental parameters influencing the system.This study provides insights into the ecological role of different bacterial groups inhabiting these physio chemically distinct habitats. bacterial communities shifts within different ecosystems. The bacterial response to different heavy metals was also investigated to understand their role in metal mitigation.
