VPRS 16018 Health Register

This register consisted of a summary listing of all properties registered with the City of Fitzroy in 1991 as required under the Health Act 1958 (Act No. 6270). Under the Health Act 1958, Municipal Councils were to employ inspectors and medical officers in order to remain informed of the public health and sanitary circumstances of the municipal district. Under sections 209-227 of the Health Act 1958, every boarding house, common lodging house, apartment house, camp or camping area, eating house and food promises were required to be registered with the Council. Regulations concerning the inspection, drainage, sanitary and other health related aspects were made by the Governor-in-Council. Premises were inspected by the municipal council for their concurrence with the regulations.The register was divided into the following sections: food premises, eating houses, hotels, apartment houses. Within these sections, properties were listed in order of street address, with the streets listed alphabetically. Each entry contained the name of applicant, address of premises and applicant address, fee payable, description of premises, number of employees or residents, and the date of transfer.It appears that this file was originally part of a Health Register which is not extant (as at 2007).
