资源简介:
This collection comprises images and site records from an archaeological observation of groundworks on Plots 2 and 3 at Aynho Park Corner, Aynho, Northamptonshire. This work was undertaken by Border Archaeology in November 2020 and January 2021. No archaeological material was encountered on the eastern half of the site (Plot 2). In the western portion of the site (Plot 3), the skeletal remains of least nine individuals were encountered, representing part of an Anglo-Saxon cemetery. Seven articulated individuals were uncovered (six adults, one non-adult). Three of the individuals were buried with metal grave goods including iron whittle tang knife blades. An 'iron sword-shaped object' found in the subsoil has been interpreted as a weaving batten. The western area of the site also contained two ditches, one of which produced a flint transverse arrowhead which may point to a Later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date. These results suggest the need for archaeological mitigation should any future development occur in this area as the full extent of this funerary landscape has yet to be fully determined.
