USGS scientists surveyed for American pikas (Ochotona princeps) at sites of documented occurrence before 1980 to evaluate persistance throughout Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, USA, 2015-2017. Scientists also surveyed for pikas and characterized talus structure and temperature to map talus and identify micro-refugia associated with temperature within a focal study in western Montana, USA, 2015-2016. Data include geographic coordinates of detected pikas, environmental characteristics at survey sites, measures of rocks within talus, and temperature recorded hourly with LogTag sensors distributed above and below talus for 1 year.
