Germ-free pregnant mice were colonized with microbiota from patients before (pre-UC) and after (post-UC) ulcerative colitis (UC) diagnosis or with microbiota from matched healthy controls. Microbiota composition by 16s rRNA sequencing was determined in dams and in colonized litters at 4, 8, and 12 weeks of age.
