资源简介:
The internal conflicts and wars in Syria and Ukraine have led to a large number of migrations. Turkey is one of the countries that receives the most migration. This study investigates (a) how Syrian and Ukrainian refugees are represented in newspapers with different ideological positions and (b) whether there is a difference between the news texts depending on the country. The sample of the study consists of Sabah, Hürriyet and Sözcü newspapers with different ideological structures. A total of 147 news texts about Syrian and Ukrainian refugees, published on the newspapers' websites between March 1 and May 1, 2022, constitute the data of the study. The data were coded with the help of the Maxqda package program and then analyzed comparatively. In the analysis, it was noticed that there was a convergence in the news in the general representation level of Ukrainian and Syrian refugees in all three newspapers. While Ukrainian refugees are mostly included in the news content as 'guests', it was seen that Syrian refugees are generally represented with 'crime and judicial events' and 'return to their country' news. In our study, where we examined how all three newspapers produced news about different refugee groups according to their ideological structures, it was found that Sabah Newspaper supported government policies regarding Ukrainian and Syrian refugees, Hürriyet Newspaper gave equal space to both government and opposition statements, and Sözcü Newspaper had a publishing approach that gave the most space to opposition statements, criticized the government's migration policies, especially towards Syrians, and gave the most space to public opinions about refugees
