The goal of the project was to enrich and cultivate microbial populations from the methanic zone of Helgoland Mud Area sediments involved in the degradation of the model aromatic compound benzoate. 16S rRNA gene sequences and metagenomes from extracted DNA from the sediment incubation and enrichment cultures derived from sediment incubations are deposited in this database.
