On-site microbial consortia capable of extracellular electron transfer (EET) is critical to the efficiency of microbial electrochemical technologies such as microbial fuel cells. However, time consuming culture methods using an electrochemical reactor is currently required to know the presence of electrogenic bacteria. Here, we developed novel surface modified-magnetic nanoparticles that enrich EET-capable bacteria.
