Dataset of Glow discharge processes and glow discharge emission spectra: signal response, matrix effects and analytical use, a review
收藏资源简介:
The paper to which this entry belongs is a review of the fundamentals of glow discharge emission spectroscopy (GDOES), submitted for publication in Spectrochimica Acta Part B. Major processes occurring in Grimm-type glow discharge spectral sources are described and linked to the underlying theory. They include the atomization (sputtering) of the cathode, transport and redeposition of the sputtered material, excitation processes and radiative transfer, including self-absorption and self-enhancement of the emitted light. Special attention is paid to the second-kind collisions, in particular, asymmetric charge transfer between argon ions and analyte atoms, greatly affecting glow discharge spectra and their analytical interpretation. Boltzmann plots and transition rate diagrams of some elements are discussed. Fundamental features specific for the Grimm-type source are reflected in analytical methodology of GDOES, in particular, by suggestions concerning the selection of ‘analytical’ lines for particular applications, calibration strategies and deviations from the standard calibration model of GDOES - the matrix effects.
