Data coverage of one (Metop-A) and all available Infrared satellites during the sea ice minimum in September 2012 (taken from Copernicus Marine Environmental Services (CMEMS) data production). In addition, the simulated Copernicus Microwave Imaging Radiometer (CIMR) coverage. Clear that IR satellites have severe limitations in the cloud covered Arctic and that CIMR is needed.
