Spatially resolved spectroscopy of cooling clusters of galaxies

We propose to observe the clusters of galaxies Sersic 15903 and 2A 0335+096each for 140 ks. The RGS spectra will allow us to spatially resolve thedistribution of the coolest gas in the cluster cores. They also will yield forthe first time accurate measurements of the carbon and nitrogen abundance in acluster. With EPIC two dimensional maps of the temperature and abundance willbe made, allowing us to study the chemical and dynamical history of theseclusters.
