Soil Health and Nutrient Flows with Enhanced Cover Cropping and Soil Management: Porewater Nitrogen Forms and Concentrations

Porewater nitrogen (N) concentrations for nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N), ammonium (NH4-N), dissolved organic nitrogren (DON), and total N during leaching season (Oct-April) 2021 and 2022 in two corn-soy rotation fields with different soil textures being managed with cover crop treatments at Central Maryland Research and Education Center (CMREC) Beltsville. The purpose was to measure the effect of cover crop species, main crop, soil type, and weather fluctuations on N leaching.
