Yield of table beet varieties studied under the conditions of the Ukrainian Forest-Steppe

The data obtained on the yield (t/ha) of 35 varieties of table beet, which were grown and studied at the Kyiv Research Station in 2011. The data was used as teaching materials for students of the Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University.The selected varieties include the entire diversity of table beet in terms of plant phenotype and yield. The data obtained allow statistical studies to be carried out and indicate the norm of variety response in terms of yield and the influence of meteorological conditions. The classic Bordeaux Kharkiv variety is taken as the standard. Climate type: temperate continental, characteristic of the Polissya region (Ukraine).Summer: warm, humid, with sufficient rainfall. This created favourable conditions for growing vegetables, in particular table beet.Precipitation: although the amount was sufficient, the distribution by month was uneven, which affected the development of the crop.Temperature regime: average summer temperatures ranged from +18 to +22 °C, which corresponded to optimal conditions for most vegetable crops.Soil type: light grey forest soils formed under broad-leaved forests and grassy vegetation.Humus content: high, which ensured good structure and water retention capacity.Acidity: slightly acidic.Nutrients: low nitrogen, average phosphorus and potassium. This meant that additional fertilisation was needed for high yields.
