New Candidates for Supernova Remnants in the Large Magellanic Cloud

We propose observations of six new candidates for SNRs in the LMC, which weredetected with ROSAT and classified as SNR candidates based on Xray, radio, andoptical properties. Two sources have already been observed (AO9, Proposal ID65188; AO11, VLP, LMC survey) and confirm the reliability of our selection ofcandidates. The proposed targets are all located outside the LMC VLP survey.Owing to the high sensitivity of XMMNewton we will be able to detect SNRs thatare Xray faint either because of their age or the ambient medium and completethe sample of known SNRs to lower flux levels. We will thus be able to performstatistical studies by, e.g., constructing a more complete XLFs of LMC SNRs andwill obtain information about typical abundances, densities, and SN energies. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
