Based on the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model as well as its extension and using the Bayesian approach, the present study has investigated the constraints on the symmetric nuclear matter equation of state (EOS) and the symmetry energy from neutron-star observables and nuclear structure data. It has been found that neutron-star observables mainly constrain the nuclear matter EOS in the high-density region, while nuclear structure data mainly constrain the nuclear matter EOS in the low-density region. The incorporation of higher-order EOS parameters affects the constraint on the EOS of symmetric nuclear matter. Considering all observables, our study favors a moderately stiff symmetry energy.
