# Dataset Introduction
## Overview
This simulated arterial pulse wave database is intended to represent pulse wave samples measured from healthy adults. It contains pulse waves from 4,374 virtual subjects aged 25 to 75 years (in 10-year increments). The database includes a set of baseline pulse waves for each of the six age groups, created using cardiovascular properties (e.g., heart rate and arterial stiffness) that represent healthy individuals in each age group. It also includes 728 virtual subjects per age group, with each cardiovascular property varying within the normal range. This allows for extensive computational analysis of the performance of hemodynamic and pulse wave analysis algorithms.
## Data Description
This database contains the following pulse waves sampled at 500 Hz: arterial flow velocity (U), lumen area (A), pressure (P), and photoplethysmogram (PPG). These pulse waves are provided at a variety of measurement sites, including: ascending aorta, descending aorta, carotid artery, brachial artery, radial artery, finger, and femoral artery. The database also includes numerous reference variables primarily related to cardiovascular properties, such as: heart rate, cardiac output, blood pressure, pulse wave velocity, and age. The data is provided in three formats: Matlab, CSV, and Waveform Database (WFDB) format. Further details on the format and content of each file are available here.
