Larinus onopordi (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is an insect that parasitically live on the Echinops plants and produce trehala manna. Trehala manna is cocoons that are manufactured by beetle larva and used as food and medicine in traditional communities. The cocoons contain trehalose sugar which is nutritionally equivalent to glucose. Trehalose is synthesized in the nature by wide range of organisms including bacteria, fungi, plants and insects. We investigated bacterial flora of trehala manna associated beetle and plant and nominate Kosakonia cowanii as a symbiont of L. onopordi.
