AB617 East Oakland - Asthma-Related ED Visits- All Age Groups

This data comes from the Alameda County Public Health Department, Community Assessment, Planning, and Evaluation (CAPE) division, using data from HCAI for 2020–2022. It provides age-adjusted rates of asthma-related emergency department visits and hospitalizations across all age groups in Alameda County, Oakland, and East Oakland. Emergency department visits and hospitalizations are combined because, in the data supplied by HCAI, any emergency room visit followed by admission to the same hospital is removed from the ED data, meaning ED visits alone undercount the actual number of visits. Combining the two provides a more accurate estimate of the burden of these conditions. Geographic data are based on residential zip codes; Oakland is defined as a combination of zip codes and includes Piedmont and Emeryville while excluding some Berkeley zip codes that overlap with Oakland. Alameda County includes two zip codes that are partially outside the county, but the entire zip is counted. The CERP community includes zip codes 94601, 94602, 94603, 94605, 94606, 94613, 94619, and 94621.
