<br><i>Authors:</i> Simeon J Smaill1, Loretta G Garrett2 and Sarah Addison2<i>Affiliation: </i>1 Scion, PO Box 29237, Riccarton, Christchurch 8440, New Zealand; 2 Scion, Private Bag 3020, Rotorua 3046, New Zealand.<br>A data set from the Accelerator trial series (FR556) spanning 6 <i>Pinus radiata</i> forest sites in New Zealand. The data set includes initial, pre-harvest and time-zero, data on soil and forest floor and trial sub-plot details. The dataset links to the Data in Brief publication Smaill et al., (2023) which describes the sample collection and testing methods. Trial ID (e.g. FR556/1) is an individual trial identification allocated to a trial site and the PSP ID (e.g. FR556/1/1) is an individual ‘Permanent Sampling Plot’ identification allocated to a measurement plot area – both are allocated by Scion’s (New Zealand Forest Research Institute Ltd) forestry trials and permanent sampling plot databases. The data includes one file with 9 data sheets and 3 data folders:· 1_Pre-harvest soil chemistry – data by PSP ID and sample depth collected from adjacent to or within the Accelerator trial area. Data includes sampling date, sampling method and soil chemical analysis on the <2 mm soil fraction.· 2_Pre-harvest soil bulk density – data by PSP ID and sample depth collected from adjacent to or within the Accelerator trial area. Data includes sampling date, sampling method and soil bulk density for <2 mm and >2 mm (mineral and organic) soil fraction.· 3_Pre-harvest soil microbial – data by PSP ID and sample depth collected from adjacent to or within the Accelerator trial area. Data includes sampling date, sampling method and soil micro-respiration responses to added substrates.· 4_Pre-harvest forest floor – data by PSP ID and sample type (fresh litter (L) and partly and well decomposed litter (FH), (<10 cm diameter)) collected from adjacent to or within the Accelerator trial area. Data includes sampling date, sampling method, forest floor mass and chemistry analysis.· 5_Accelerator trial sub-plot details – by each PSP ID including block, plot and sub-plot ID, treatment ID and treatment at time zero, planting stock ID, slope, elevation, and slope direction.· 6_Time zero soil chemistry – data by permeant plot sample (PSP) ID and sample depth collected from a sub-set of PSP’s for the Accelerator trial. Data includes sampling date, sampling method and soil chemical analysis on the <2 mm soil fraction.· 7_Time zero soil bulk density – data by PSP ID and sample depth collected from a sub-set of PSP’s for the Accelerator trial. Data includes sampling date, sampling method and soil bulk density for <2 mm and >2 mm (mineral and organic) soil fraction.· 8_Time zero soil microbial – data by PSP ID and sample depth collected from a within the Accelerator trial area. Data includes sampling date, sampling method and soil micro-respiration responses to added substrates.· 9_Time zero soil profile – data by PSP ID collected from a sub-set of PSP’s for the Accelerator trial. Data includes soil horizon description and New Zealand soil classification.· Folder FR556_MIR spectra: FR556 trial soil Mid-Infrared spectra opus files by sample ID.· Folder FR556_MIR spectra_csv: FR556 trial soil Mid-Infrared spectra csv files by sample ID.· Folder FR556_soil profile images: FR556 trial soil profile image files by trial site ID.Contact: Loretta Garrett (loretta.garrett@scionresearch.com)<b>Acknowledgments</b>Funding to publish the data came from the Resilient Forest program, which is funded by New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) Strategic Science Investment Fund, and in part by the New Zealand Forest Growers Levy Trust (C04X1703).
