Electron backscatter diffraction data for samples from natural upper mantle shear zones in the Josephine Peridotite, SW Oregon

To understand how olivine microstructures evolve with increasing strain during upper mantle deformation, we analyzed a suite of natural peridotite shear zone samples using electron backscatter diffraction. For each sample, we produced a map of mineral orientations, recorded in a Channel Text File (.ctf). Each row of data represents one pixel of the map. Indexed phases typically include olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, chromite, and tremolite.
