Near-Surface Ground and Air Temperature Data near Laguna Negra, Andes of Santiago, Chile (2003-2011)

This repository provides near-surface ground temperature and air temperature logger data from thermal monitoring campaigns in the Laguna Negra area, central Chilean Andes near Santiago (~33.6°S, 70.1°W). The datasets document ground thermal regime variability across contrasting high-elevation periglacial environments relevant to mountain permafrost research, including measurements from 2003–2004 and 2008–2011 at sites spanning different elevations (2475-4020 m above sea level), cryospheric landforms (rock glaciers) and substrates (talus slopes, debris), exposures, snow-cover conditions, and sensor depths (ground surface and up to 100 cm). The repository has two components: a 2003–2004 depth-resolved ground-temperature dataset from five sites (related to the publication by Bodin et al., 2010), and a 2008–2011 near-surface ground and air temperature dataset from a broader network of 41 monitoring sites (from Apaloo et al., 2012).
