Dataset for "Walk-along with Wayfinders and Test of Different Design Scenarios for a More Legible Environment of Elevated Walkways in Hong Kong"

This dataset accompanies the article "Walk-along with Wayfinders and Test of Different Design Scenarios for a More Legible Environment of Elevated Walkways in Hong Kong" submitted to Building and Environment. It contains the anonymized research data for 32 adult participants who completed a real-world walk-along navigation task in Hong Kong's Central elevated walkway network between 18 May and 5 July 2024.

Participants were stratified by gender and randomly assigned to one of two navigation conditions (Direct Wayfinding without a map, n=16; or Mobile Map Wayfinding with Google Maps, n=16) and one of two destinations (Central Market or Landmark Atrium, 8 participants per cell). The same 32 participants subsequently rated before/after design interventions at eight decision-point locations across seven legibility dimensions on a 1–5 Likert scale.

The deposit is organized into four folders:
- 01_behavioural/ — total walk time, stop counts, scope counts (reproduces Tables 3 and 6 of the article)
- 02_scenario_ratings/ — 3,584 Likert ratings from the visual survey (reproduces Figure 7)
- 03_coding_counts/ — inductive content-analysis counts of facilitators and barriers (reproduces Figures 4, 5, and 6)
- 04_spatial/ — anonymized hand-traced trajectories, stop points, and scope points as GeoJSON (reproduces Figure 3)

Each subfolder contains its own README with variable definitions, reproduction examples in Python and R, and ethical notes. Audio recordings, full transcripts, and demographic detail are not included to comply with ethics approval SBRE-23-0847 from the CUHK Research Ethics Committee.
