Lakes chemistry data and metals concentration in Chaoborus punctipennis data from Rouyn-Noranda (Québec) and Sudbury (Ontario) [2019 and 2021]

The database contains water chemistry data and metals concentration in the Chaoborus punctipennis larvae. Sampling was conducted in the late May and early June 2019 in Sudbury (Ontario) and Rouyn-Noranda (Québec). Further sampling was conducted in late June and early July 2021 in Rouyn-Noranda. The aim of the studies provides information on the dynamic of rare earth elements (REE) accumulation by Chaoborus larvae, a possible biomonitor. Furthermore, the data provide a picture of the current level of historic metal contamination (Ni, Cu…) and of the actual levels of REE in these mining and smelting regions. For each lake location, physiochemistry data and Chaoborus were collected. The dataset includes the location of the lakes, organic matter (Transformation in CO2), anion (Ionic chromatography), major cations and metals (ICP-MS-MS) measures in dissolved water (0.45 µm) and metals measures (ICP-MS-MS) in Chaoborus punctipennis. The concentration data was processed as follows; where digestion blanks were detected they were subtracted from the sample values, where the concentration of replicates was below the detection limit half the detection limit was used.
