The series contains files documenting the function of alienating Crown Land whether it is temporal, use based or title based as part of the exploitation of the Crown Lands to benefit the general public of New South Wales. This includes the sale or disposal of Crown Land and the management of tenures and permitsFiles in this series were created for a particular parcel of land (or holding) and maintained over time documenting contractual arrangements made with separate third parties in relation to that land and, in some cases, the eventual conversion of the land from tenure to freehold through disposal. A search may be carried out on the title of the file to ascertain a tenure holder but frequently the file title was altered to only current tenure holder only. The numbering pattern shown within the file title represents the tenure type and an office code, for example, P = Purchase and Pi = Purchase Incomplete (tenure type). The office codes are as follows:m – Metropolitanp – Penrithpn – Pictonw – WindsorThis series of records was formed by reconstituting a former series, the LB or Land Board files for Metropolitan Land Board. The Metropolitan Land Board files were controlled by Registers and related to various matters. Land Board files which were current as at 1 January 1979 were reconstituted as either Holding files (this series) or Reserves files. Non current Land Board files were either destroyed or sent to secondary storage.From 1 April 2007, TRIM and functional classification was deployed at Parramatta District Office and no new Holdings or Reserves files were created after that date. The records document the function of alienating Crown Land whether it is temporal, use based or title based as part of the exploitation of the Crown Lands to benefit the general public of New South Wales. This includes the sale or disposal of Crown Land and the management of tenures and permits.
