<b>Hypothesis</b>: Insects are more attracted to brightly-coloured than dark-coloured bowls. <b>Prediction</b>: I will find more insects floating in the yellow bowl. I will find little to no insects floating on the blue bowls. <b>Methods:</b>1.) 10 coloured bowls (3 yellow, 3 blue and 4 white) were placed on a grassland and another 10 (3 yellow, 3 blue and 4 white) were placed on a woodlot from 3:25 to 4:25. The grassland and woodland were located near Keele and York Blvd. at York University, Keele Campus. Each bowl had a diameter of 17.5 cm and a depth of 4.5 cm. The bowls were randomly spaced 0.5m apart. The conditions can be described as partially cloudy. 2.) Each bowl was filled with approximately 40 mL of soap water.3.) After 1 hour has elapsed. the number of insects floating in the soap water of each coloured bowl was counted and tabulated. The data was uploaded to figshare. <b>Meta data:</b> Habitat: the location where the bowl was placed. It can be placed either on grassland or woodlot. It is categorical. Colour of Bowl: the bowl can be white, blue or yellow. It is categorical. Number of Insects: defined as the number of insects floating in the bowl. It is continuous. Number of species: defined as the number of unique species seen in the bowl. It is continuous.
