Swift Current Creek Watershed Stewards Phosphorus Monitoring

The Swift Current Creek Watershed Stewards in collaboration with the Carrot River Watershed Association, South Saskatchewan River Watershed Stewards, and North Saskatchewan River Basin aim to sample phosphorus levels in tributaries that contribute to the Lake Winnipeg Basin. Samples were taken with standard “grab” protocol at pre-determined sites within each watershed with the help of volunteers as citizen scientists. All samples were sent for laboratory analysis. High phosphorus levels in the Lake Winnipeg basin have been documented and sources explored as to where the phosphorus loading is coming from. The Swift Current Creek, located in South Saskatchewan, is the largest tributary to the South Saskatchewan River, which feeds into the Lake Winnipeg basin.
