Real-World Outcomes for Women with Ovarian Cancer: Measuring Quality of Care in Australia Using a Clinical Quality Registry

Ovarian cancer is Australia’s deadliest gynaecological cancer, and survival depends heavily on the quality of treatment received. This PhD utilised the National Gynae-Oncology Registry (NGOR) to provide the first comprehensive assessment of patterns of care standards nationwide. The research confirmed that adhering to best-practice guidelines - specifically high-quality surgery, standard chemotherapy, and genetic testing significantly improves survival. However, the studies identified critical disparities: older women often receive less intensive treatment, and the uptake of new life-prolonging targeted therapies is inconsistent. This work provides evidence needed to improve standards and ensure equitable, life-saving care for all Australian women.
