USING AUTHENTIC VIDEO MATERIALS TO ENHANCE INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE IN EFL CLASSROOMS

This article investigates the effectiveness of authentic video materials in enhancing intercultural competence in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. In the context of globalization and increasing intercultural communication, language learners are expected to develop not only linguistic proficiency but also cultural awareness and communicative adaptability. Authentic video materials such as films, interviews, documentaries, television programs, and online media expose learners to real-life language use and culturally meaningful communication contexts. The study analyzes the pedagogical advantages of audiovisual resources in improving learners’ listening comprehension, pragmatic competence, cultural sensitivity, motivation, and critical thinking skills. Special attention is given to interactive teaching methods, including group discussions, role-playing, reflective analysis, and project-based learning activities supported by authentic videos. The findings demonstrate that authentic audiovisual materials significantly contribute to the development of intercultural communicative competence and prepare learners for successful interaction in multicultural environments. The article also emphasizes the importance of careful material selection and effective pedagogical guidance in maximizing learning outcomes.
