Sensory experience instructs neurodevelopment and refines sensory processing. We describe a minimally invasive protocol to immobilize zebrafish larvae and control visual experience. Visual experience can be controlled through early development from 2-6 days post fertilization during defined intervals. This protocol avoids surgical methods necessary in other vertebrate models to control visual experience, which can be validated using readily performed and robust visuomotor assays. These methods can be adapted to broadly test the role of visual experience during development.
