The key enzymes of the kavalactone biosynthetic pathway from Piper methysticum were heterologuously expressed using agrobacterium infiltration in Nicotiana benthamiana. In addition, an isotopically labeled substrate, cinnamic acid-d6, was injected into the Nicotiana plants. Related to this study:
