Trifluoroacetate Lowers Plasma Lipid Levels and Reduces the Development of Atherosclerosis in Mice

We discovered that oral or intraperitoneal administration of TFA brings about dramatic reductions in plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels in high fat-fed low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLr)-null mice. TFA administration reduced the development of atherosclerotic lesions in high fat-fed LDLr-null mice and apolipoprotein E (apoE)-null mice.
