资源简介:
Community Choice Aggregations (CCAs) are a rapidly expanding electricity supply model in the United States. By enabling local governments to obtain electricity for their residents, CCAs have the potential to increase the use of renewable energy while lowering costs. However, little research has been done on public attitudes towards CCAs and how to shift those attitudes to support their continued expansion. We address this gap in the empirical literature by conducting a nationwide survey of 1,862 respondents. We use a survey experiment to analyze partisan attitudes towards CCAs along two dimensions: support and price sensitivity. We find that most respondents are currently unfamiliar with CCAs, but giving them educational information about CCAs and energy mixes increases their support for CCAs at the state, local, and personal levels. Our results suggest that outreach and awareness campaigns may be effective strategies for CCA advocates. We do not find heterogeneous treatment effects across Democrats and Republicans, suggesting that educating the public about specific renewable energy policies may counter partisan polarization on the environment. Finally, we do not find treatment effects on price sensitivity; future research should continue to explore the relationship between support and price sensitivity for renewable energy policies. Our results have important implications for policymakers and advocates of CCAs, as well as for scholars studying energy policy or partisan polarization more broadly.
