The German Archaeological Institute (DAI) looks back on long and multifaceted research tradition on the African continent, whose origins date back to the founding of the Cairo Department in 1906. Building on its early activities in Egypt, the Institute has continuously expanded its research fields over time to include other regions of Africa, including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania, Eswatini, Mozambique and South Africa among others. TANA sees itself as a platform for academic dialogue and cooperation. It creates spaces for regular meetings, networking, personal development and inspiration. Through its members, it fosters a wide range of international links within the field of African archaeology, such as the Pan-African Congress, SAFA and Nubian Studies, as well as with organisation involved in the protection of cultural heritage and international cooperation, such as UNESCO and ICOMOS. This booklet provides an insight into the range of activities, perspectives and collaborations of the DAI in Africa and invites readers to rediscover the diversity of archaeological research on the continent.
