A Database of Intertexts in Valerius Flaccus’ Argonautica 1: A Benchmarking Resource for the Evaluation of Computational Intertextual Search of Latin Corpora

The dataset contains 945 intertextual references to Vergil's Aeneid, Ovid's Metamorphoses, Lucan's Bellum Civile, and Statius' Thebaid in Book 1 of Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica. The references are curated from three commentaries on the Argonautica by Kleywegt, Spaltenstein, and Zissos, and the dataset includes additional lexical information about the parallels, such as the edit distance between phrase pairs. The dataset can be used to benchmark computational tools for Latin intertextual search.
