The data set describes <em>B. distachyon</em> plants that were grown for 3 weeks on 5 mM inorganic nitrogen (iN) as NO<sub>3</sub><sup>-</sup>, NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup>, or NH<sub>4</sub>NO<sub>3</sub> and then transferred to iN free medium for additional two weeks. The Control plants received iN medium for the whole 5 weeks.
