NZB/NZW F1 mice (NZBWF1 mice) develop lupus nephritis spontaneously. Immune cells, for example, T cells, B cells, dendritic cells, and monocytes contribute the phenotypes of NZBWF1 mice. Among these cells, Ly6C-negative patrolling monocytes expand and infiltrate into kidney. To clarify the role for patrolling monocytes in the induction of lupus nephritis, we compared the gene expression pattern between patrolling monocytes and Ly6C-positive classical monocytes.
