Temporal genomic dataset of black rhinoceroses from sub-Saharan Africa

The temporal dataset comprises 63 whole-genomes from black rhinoceros museum specimens collected between 1775 and 1981, as well as 20 re-sequenced genomes from extant black rhinoceros populations. The study's aim was to assess and compare genetic diversity and population structure in an endangered species through time and space. With the insights gained from this unique temporal dataset, we suggest management strategies, some of which require urgent implementation, for the conservation of the remaining black rhinoceros diversity.
