Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease characterized by progressive inflammation and fibrotic remodeling of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic biliary tree. A hallmark feature of PSC is its close association with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which occurs in approximately 70-80% of patients, most commonly as a distinct form of ulcerative colitis characterized by right-sided predominance, rectal sparing and extensive colonic involvemen.
