During lactation the characteristics of milk change over time. Milk is commonly divided into 3 to 4 types based on the period of lactation, typically referred to as colostrum, tansition milk, mature milk and weaning milk. These terms are specific to the species being studied, as the duration of lactation can vary significantly between species. Therefore, general terms such as "early lactation" may have different meanings depending on the species. This 2-column tabular file provides a list of commonly used terms to designate different periods of lactation.
